MARDI GRAS on the BAYOU

Mardi Gras on the Bayou is done as a boat parade. The most famous is on Carnival Saturday on the Tickfaw River, just outside of Springfield.  It is held at Crazy Charlie's Blood River Landing, a private outdoor boat launching area and quazi country club.  Featured in the French Quarter's Mardi Gras Museum and hailed by Boating Magazine as " The wildest party on the water."

The chandelier is made of old motors.

In addition to Spanish moss there are strings of Styrofoam boat bumpers hanging from the trees.

The gumbo was great.  They needed an oar to stir it.

The parade boats began to arrive.

It was fun until they started throwing Mardi Gras beads and missing.  Plastic floating it the Bayou made me stop enjoying the party.

Send me e-mail with suggestions for alternative , fish friendly throws.  I can forward this to a local newspaper publisher.  He said he would publish any suggestions.

It is hard to read but this Mardi Gras boat's banner reads

"Keep our Bayou Clean."

After crowning the king the music and dancing began.

Wayne Toots and band put out some great music.
