Begin your visit at
the Washington Visitor's Bureau and Town Museum.
(above) Washington was once a transfer point for
paddlewheel ships from New Orleans. You can still find
the turnaround widening in the now quiet
bayou.
You can't miss the Steamboat
Warehouse with its outlook where the downtown bridge
crosses Bayou Courtaleau. Elegantly restored in 1977 and
serving delicious lunch, dinner or libations with a nearby
B&B on the way |

This
couple designed and maintain Magnolia Ridge, a wonderful,
enchanted garden on their niece's 60 acre property not far from
the center of Washington. The niece and family visit from
Texas just a few times a year and the rest of the time the
grounds are open to the public 7 days a week. Three
gardeners help maintain a concentration of reclaimed beauty not
to be found anywhere like it in Cajun country.
Here is a late February small sample featuring their man made
cypress swamp. |
