The "Pousada Enseada de Aratuba" ( Aratuba Bay Inn )" is on a beach on the Atatuba Bay, on the island of Itaparica. Itaparica is an island in the " Bay of All Saints", facing the city of Salvador, Bahia. Salvador is the Capital of the state of Bahia.ARATUBA: Aratuba is a small fishing village. Over the past few years the town has started to become a destination for local Brazilian tourists. This has resulted in a few more restaurants and a few small business people renting water sports equipment on the beach. The town still retains the character of a small fishing village. If you are not interested in any water sport beyond walking the beach and taking a swim, there is plenty of quite beachfront to keep you happy. CUSTOMERS: At the Inn "Enseada de Aratuba " our guests come from all over. We have guests from other parts of Brazil, other countries in the America’s and many European countries. THE LOCALS: Aratuba is a community with an international feel. In addition to the true locals, those who grew up in Aratuba, the people who live in Aratuba come from all over Brazil, the America’s and Europe. In addition to Portuguese, many of the locals still speak their native languages ( Italian, Spanish, German, English to name a few). This jumble of languages and cultures makes for a truly international setting. These "locals," who are originally from such places as Sao Paulo, Milan, Cordoba San Francisco, Juiz deFora, etc. are teachers, managers, small business people, students, doctors, etc. They are drawn to Aratuba by a common belief. Their credo is that excessive luxuries are not essential in order to lead a happy and fulfilled life. Beauty, nature, friendship and the international/ multi-cultural atmosphere bring them to Aratuba. I hope you will join us and become part of the mix. At the "Pousada Enseada de Aratuba",there is no extra charge for the beautiful sunsets or the sounds of the ocean that lulls you to sleep at night. If you know how to appreciate a good sunset, if you prefer a sea breeze to the noise of air conditioning, this is the place for you.The Pousada Enseada de Aratuba is an unpretentious (simple) Inn. Although the Inn is not luxurious, we think your will feel right at home with us. The Inn, hidden in the shade of a beautiful garden, opens onto a calm beach. Our lodgings are simple but very comfortable. Some rooms have a balcony with a view, through the garden, of the bay. From your balcony or the breakfast room, you can watch the little monkeys climb and play in the trees. Some rooms come with a private bathroom, others have a bathroom down the hall, (shared with other guests). We also have youth Hostel style rooms in which you share a room with other guests. All rooms have a ceiling fan. Your room rate includes a continental breakfast. This includes local fruits and homemade bread. The are two small restaurants less than 5 minutes walk along the beach. They both have very casual beach settings but the quality of food is what you would expect in a fine restaurant. One restaurant features Italian food, ( the lasagna and pizza specialties are fantastic! ) the other, run by a German man, features fresh local fish. The prices are very reasonable. A small Brazilian Fishing Village, a 15-minute walk down the beach, has many restaurants with authentic Brazilian fare at great prices WHAT WE OFFER:The Inn is small, there are: 11 rooms with private bathrooms, all with at least one full size ( two person ) bed. Three of these rooms have a balcony with a view of the bay. Two have an extra bunk bed and one has two full size beds. 4 rooms have shared bathrooms ( bathroom down the hall) Three of these have a balcony and view of the sea. All have one full size ( two person ) bed and a twin (one person) bed. 4 Youth Hostel type (you can rent the whole room – 6 beds or rent one bed and share the room with other guests) rooms. These rooms share a bathroom, (bathroom down the hall) Each Youth Hostel room has 6 twin (one person) beds. The rooms with shared baths are served by 6 external bathrooms. All of the rooms have a fan. The prices for the private rooms, breakfast included, vary from 15,00 US$ from autumn to spring and to 25,00 US$ in the summer. The price for the youth hostel style beds is 8,00 US $ for each person. DIRECTIONS: Our Inn is situated on the Island of Itacare, at few hundred meters, ¼ of a mile, along the beach from the town of Aratuba. If you are coming by car or bus, take the highway " Br 101 ". If you come by car from Santo Antônio de Jesus or from Bom Despacho, from the highway "Ba 01" you take the exit for Caixa Prego (this is clearly marked with a sign). Drive 2,5 km to find the sign for the "Pousada Enseada de Aratuba".To e nter the condominium area you need to open a gate ( a chain across the road) and follow the road to the beach. The "Pousada Enseada de Aratuba" is on the left.
There is frequent Ferry-Boat service to the island of Itarparica from Salvador. There are two departure points from Salvador. One departure point is very close to the elevator that takes you to the upper city and the Pellgirino. The ferry takes about one hour. The Catamaran takes about 20 minutes. From the Bom Despacho bus station you take a komby (R $2,00) for Caixaprego. Go down to the gated entrance to the Condominium area ( see above). It is a walk of 700 meters, ½ mile, from the bus stop in town to the inn.
