We arrived at Catemaco at 10:30 PM

Although there were locals hanging around the bus station, which has a beautiful location right on the lake, there was not a cab in sight.
We found a "travel guide" who strapped some of our bags to his bike and we were off to the hotel 5 minutes from the bus station.

City Hall Catemaco

The Caemaco Hotel is the pink building (below).

It is located right next to city hall,
and is located on the zocolo.

The lake and the Malecon
(waterfront walk) is across the zocolo from the hotel.

The Catemaco Hotel had a pool with a slide and diving board.  I remember roadside hotels like this when I was a kid.  Unfortunately all the diving boards and slides have disappeared from the US thanks to our litigious society.

Catemaco has a beautiful church and a festival for the patron saint "Carmen"

Carmen Patron Saint of Catemaco

Catemaco is also known for the many witches in town.
You can purchase packets of herbs custom made to ward off evil spirits, the hotel night clerk showed me his amulet.  The towns biggest event is the annual witch festival.
(Between the Catholic Carmen and the witches this town is well protected)
